I was never really much of a gamer, yet, I remember the Commodore 64 in my after-school club and how it fascinated me every time the fast loader miraculously brought to life games like Ghosts 'n Goblins and Donkey Kong, whilst us kids would queue up to play. I also remember the video game arcades that, at the time, were starting to appear, with all the magical machines and their flashing lights and colours, the smell of pop corn and drinks-stained carpets and important-looking people in small glass booths, exchanging money for jetons. And then there were the sounds. Those sounds! A mesmerising cacophony of bleeps, small synthetic melodic sequences, voices and effects playing randomly at the same time, creating an otherworldly soundscape, unlike anything I had ever heard before. This is the part of gaming that has stayed with me, and over the years, I have found myself acquiring more and more gaming soundtracks, a genre, which to my ears, seems to be a beautiful bottomless pit of songs, sounds and scapes. Tales From The Leisure League is not meant as a gaming soundtrack, but if you have made it this far, you have successfully completed level 1. Please insert the disc and press play to continue.

REALLY wish I'd subscribed sooner to be able to enjoy this on vinyl! Curious the artist cited 12 Monkeys and not La Jetee as one of the key inspirations. For me, this has a more somber, introspective and timeless feel more akin to La Jetee than 12 Monkeys (though I also am a big fan of Terry Gilliam). Gorgeous music and you get the bonus of a list of excellent movies to enjoy (another note to the artist: Time Crimes is also a good film to watch). Now to somehow procure a vinyl copy...
